The Evolution of a Notebook

My original intention for the original Fugue for Thought was just a Blogspot-hosted online listening journal. It has since become much, much more than that, and the current goal is to have an ever-growing library of media and teaching resources about classical music organized by individual piece, some very common, some very obscure, that subscribers can have access to and enjoy listening and learning.

To avoid any copyright infringement, there’s no actual audio here, perhaps the occasional sound byte, so you’ll need to sort out your own Spotify or Apple Music or record collection to sync with my score videos, but I’ve made that as easy as I can.

To Be Clear…

I’m no musician. I played in some school bands (quite good ones, actually), but I came to this venture many years ago as an amateur who wanted to learn as much as I could about classical music: performance, history, composition, style, all of it, and to my surprise, many of my articles are top results for the pieces being discussed, like this one, or this one, or this one, or this one, or this one.

But I’ve learned a lot about music and want to try to dispel the myth that it’s inaccessible, highbrow, boring, or only for putting babies to sleep or listening to while studying for a test. As Benjamin Zander says, classical music is for everyone.

People

Writer, researcher, and reviewer for over a decade on all things classical music related, especially lesser known and neglected pieces. Proudly the first result on many Google searches for pieces I've written about.
