Monthly Concert Programs
More to come here later, but this is hopefully going to be the heart and soul of what we do here on Substack: no more independent pieces to be written about or month(s)-long series of a few dozen pieces, but putting a few pieces in context together as you might see them on a concert program. This has all sorts of benefits and implications, hopefully, but in case you want to review what monthly programs have come in the past, here’s the full list.
I was only planning on doing one per month for the 2025-26 season but started doing two a month beginning in November, so those are listed as A and B, as follows:
2026
January
Concert Program A: Mozart and Mahler in D minor
Concert Program B: Coming soon, with Nielsen, Englund, and Beethoven
2025
September
A series/concept opener of sorts, featuring Haydn, Beethoven, and Schumann’s second
October
Dramatic stuff: Schubert’s Rosamunde overture, Brahms’ violin concerto, and Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht
November
Concert Program A: Wagner, Sibelius, and the late Per Nørgård’s first
Concert Program B: Bacewicz, Honegger, and Beethoven’s fifth
December
Concert Program A: Prokofiev, Schnittke, and Tchaikovsky’s fourth
Concert Program B: Langgaard, Abrahamsen, and Sibelius
